Wii More Powerful Then Wii Thought?

Well ever since IGN had posted their inside source specs on the Wii some have come to terms that the 729 MHz CPU & 243 GPU was what we were going to be getting in the Wii. Now I don't expect some insane power in that little box like the PS3 but I've always thought it to be between the 1ghz-2ghz range.

In no way will I be disappointed if it happens to be true about the specs on IGN but something I've read today (yeah I'm slow) has fired up my worseless thoughts again.

I read the follow article here Apple's Switch and this part jumped out at me;

"At the time of The Switch, Apple was entertaining a plethora of very attractive but unreleased and completely unproven PPC options. IBM had offered them Cell on the desktop and Broadway (the Wii processor) in their laptop line. Similarly, P.A. Semi was trying to lure the company with their forthcoming PWRficient line. Neither company apparently saw the switch coming. I've been told that the final decision to make the switch was done at the very last minute before WWDC. "

If the above is true that made me think why in the world would IBM trying to be offering Apple the Broadway CPU if it's only a beefed up G3 CPU running at 729mhz. Then I read another article by the same person that reinforced my own thoughts;

A closer look at the "leaked" Wii specs

"Personally, I have a hard time imagining that IBM, ATI, and Nintendo have invested all this time and money into a product that's basically a speedbump of an existing product.

If Wii were just a GameCube with a DVD player and a funky controller, you'd think it would be out already. And here's another clue: I know and have reported before that Apple was offered Broadway as a possible laptop chip, but I just can't see IBM offering them the above single-issue design with a straight face. What's outlined above isn't even a G4. It's a heavily tweaked G3, and it would be a big step backwards from the G4. "

Well all in all I won't be disappointed if my hunch or speculation is incorrecte and it is indeed 729mhz. But for fun I will put money on 1.2ghz CPU...

'Wii are not powerful'

Sorry to disappoint you Farmer, but Wii wiil continue to be a typical Nintendo product, it will not support DVD Playback, Don't beleive me check out this link,
http://games.jhatkaa.com/2006/09/15/nintendo-to-kick-dvd-out-of-the-wii/
And it will be region locked http://games.jhatkaa.com/2006/09/16/nintendo-wii-to-lock-out-regions/
so dont expect to import great Japanese RPGs or any other games, Nintendo LIED about the DVD Playback accessory, and also about the the region locked Wii. And also dont expect muitiplayer games on third party titles. And for a 729 MHz Processor, it costs US$250, with games selling as high as $60 for third party titles and US$50 for first party titles.

Get a PS3 or a Xbox 360 for true next-generation gaming.

I know the Wii won't support DVD playback and I could care less. I've never cared for DVD playback in the PS2 or Xbox and have never used either to watch a movie. I buy the console for one purpose and that's to play games.

As for the region lock. I was excited when it was first announced but wasn't upset when it was confirmed to be false.

There really isn't reason why 3rd parties devs won't have multiplayer on any of their games. Sure launch titles are pretty much out but that can easly be added later on via Wiiconnect24.

I never heard of $60 first party titles and to put it straight I could care less.

As for TRUE next-gen gaming...a person needs to get all three systems.
